A form of yoga that uses a fabric hammock suspended from the ceiling as a prop. The fabric can help to unload pressure and weight from the body and can help make more advanced postures (such as inversions) more accessible. Aerial can help you get deeper into stretches that may be difficult when on the ground. In aerial yoga, we move our bodies and perform many postures that would be typical in a mat yoga class, but with the help of the fabric. Aerial yoga encourages practitioners to find the connection between breath, movement, mind, and body.
You will find that you get more balanced, stretch deeper, and get stronger - all while having fun!
Shake things up a little, get out of a rut, spread your wings and fly!

Nope! Prior experience is not required. We will teach you everything you need to know to have a fun and rewarding experience.
For safety we do require that you start with our Foundations of Aerial 4 week Series, beginner classes or private lessons before signing up for intermediate classes.

Yes! Our fabrics are rated to hold 2000 lbs.

Wear flexible fitted clothing. Pants that cover the knees and shirts that cover the shoulders and armpits are best to help avoid silk burn. Baggy pants tend to bunch up in the fabric, and baggy shirts tend to fall up overhead when in inversions (this isn’t always a big deal to everyone, but a lot of students find it distracting).
Do NOT wear pronged jewelry or clothing with sharp clasps/closures or zippers. These items can snag on the fabric.
Water and extra yoga mats are available at the studio but most students bring water bottles and their own yoga mat.
-
Don’t worry! Aerial can actually help you get into stretches and more opening postures. You do not need to be flexible to start aerial, but you may just find that aerial will help you to become more flexible.
-
That’s OK! We take pride in meeting our students where they are. We want to help you have a good time and get stronger and more flexible! Aerial is known for being a FUN form of exercise and body movement. Even if you hate regular exercise regimen, you just might find that you love aerial! Check it out and see for yourself!

As with any form of physical exercise, there is always some risk involved, but we make safety of our students a top priority. For this reason, we require new students to take a beginner class, to learn the basics and safety before moving on.
If you have specific medical concerns, please check with your doctor and make your instructor aware of any relevant conditions.
-
YES! But only if you want to be. We teach inversions in all classes, and although inverting is a big part of the practice that many of us love and look forward to, no student is EVER for forced to do anything they don’t want to. There are reasons why some students may choose to sit out certain inversions, and that is OK!
-
There are so many benefits to inverting your body!
Inversions are thought to help improve circulation, encourage decompression of the spine, increased lymph flow, improve balance, and help with stretching - just to name a few. If you have been working on handstand, headstand, down dog, forward folds, or other inversion type yoga postures, come try them in aerial! Often times, we can use the fabric as a prop to support more advanced postures that you may not be able to achieve on the mat. And who knows, it may just help you shift your perspective!

While many of the postures and shapes we make with our bodies are the same in both aerial dance and aerial yoga, you will find that the style in each class is different. In aerial yoga, class is focused on flowing postures and breath, with some tricks thrown in for fun. Aerial dance uses many of the same exercises, but the postures are choreographed and set to music. Both classes are rewarding and fun. Both classes end with a final resting pose, or savasana, which is a relaxing posture lying/floating in the fabric. We recommend you try both!

Our studio has a limited capacity based on the number of silks and classes often sell out. Because of this we require you to purchase a class and register ahead of time.
We have different class packages available and it is possible to purchase just one class at a time. If you find that you enjoy Aerial Yoga you can take advantage of our New Student Special to purchase unlimited yoga for a month at a discounted rate, or purchase 5 or 10 class passes to bring down the price per class.
Once you see how frequently you want to take classes you can decide if a monthly recurring membership is right for you.

Special events and series are purchased separate than memberships and class passes. When you sign up for Foundations of Aerial you will also get access to unlimited classes for the duration of the series included in the cost.

Feeling tightness and pressure from the fabric is normal at first and can even cause some bruising. Some people adjust to this sensation quickly, for others, it takes longer. The more frequently you practice, the faster it will get better.
For this reason we recommend you try at least two classes and see if the sensation becomes intense on your second try.
It is not uncommon for some people to feel a bit dizzy and anxious when you are hanging upside down. As with the fabric tightness, these sensations often improve over time.
We have found that people are quick to either fall in love with the practice or determine that it might not be the right fit for them after taking only a handful of classes.
